Why It’s So Important to Build a Relationship with Your Assets

Prior to risking your time, effort and hard-earned money, you should intimately understand what you're investing in and why.

How well do you know what you’re trading? How well do you know what you’re investing in?

If the answer is, “Not that well,” that’s got to change! Here’s why…

Everything in life involves risk. Prior to risking your time, effort and hard-earned money, you should intimately understand what you’re investing in and why.

Why do I say “intimately”? Because society in general has simply become too wishy-washy. Most folks just do something and then worry about the “why” later on.

Be decisive. Do whatever you’re doing in life with conviction. Make sure it has a meaningful purpose. That’s how you’ll derive great satisfaction from everything you do.

Is It Worth It?

If you’re buying a stock, a business, a piece of real estate, a car, a collectible or whatever it might be, you should know what you’re buying inside and out.

It should be familiar to you, and you should know it as intimately as you know your significant other.

I know that might sound weird, but the reality is that if you’re going to spend time, effort or money on it, you’ve sacrificed at least one of those things to afford the opportunity to do so.

It better be worth it!

I love to be diversified. I like to own businesses in different fields. And I like to own things that appreciate in value over time.

In fact, I’d buy anything that will someday be worth more than what I paid for it.

But you can be sure that I’ll know whatever that “anything” is before I invest my time, effort and money into it.

You see, if you don’t understand the asset from all angles, two scenarios exist…

  1. You’ll end up with something that underperforms your expectations
  2. You’re being taken to the woodshed because someone thinks they found a sucker.

I have no interest in being stuck with either of these two situations.

My Trading Partner

For me, when it comes to trading, I trade just one asset. I intimately have a relationship with it.

Are there times when we absolutely don’t love each other? Definitely!

But there are also times when we treat each other very nicely and get along like peas and carrots.

I don’t abuse this asset. I wait patiently for it to offer me an opportunity to partake in its action.

I don’t over-trade. I remain interested in its trend being my friend.

And in return, for the most part, this asset cooperates with me fairly well.

This market for me in the Crude Oil Futures market. It’s my intimate trading partner.

Take the Next Step
