What is integrity? To me it’s always been doing the right thing long after the moment of excitement has passed.
It’s continuing to date your wife after you’ve married her. It’s your responsibility to keep the marriage and relationship alive, well and exciting.
When it comes to hiring a new employee, the excitement and carrot you dangled in front of them should be fulfilled as that’s what they’ve worked towards.
If you’re the employee, you should remain just as excited about the job you have as the day you were applying for it.
What tends to happen is that the shininess wears off, the lust dulls and things end up not being what you had anticipated them to be.
If you’re on the receiving end of this, it’s very disappointing. If you’re on the delivering end of this, you should be ashamed of yourself.
This is something that we’ll all experience in our lives, both personally and professionally. Lack of integrity sadly exists nearly everywhere you turn.
How does this all relate to trading and investing?
Well, the integrity of the trades and investments you make will reflect in the lust or dullness they return you.
If you’re willing to stay as excited about the next trade as you were about the last one, stay disciplined and loyal to your trade plan, you can keep that lust alive.
It’s the same with your spouse. If you’re loyal to keeping the relationship alive and well, you will.
If you’re loyal to your employees, constantly adding value to them and rewarding them for their loyalty and talents, they’ll continue to keep the lust of your business alive.
Just the same, if you as an employee continue to over deliver, the excitement and fulfillment of doing the job you do will remain rewarding.
At the end of the day, the universe has a way of balancing everything. We receive what we give. Adjustments are made accordingly. Just as lust can become dull.
Our goal is to keep the lust alive when it comes to trading and investing. It will keep our integrity of the quality of our positions in a brighter light for us.
It doesn’t mean we’ll always win, but we have a plan, and that plan paired with discipline can lead us to lustful returns.
